Vizag Colony History

Approximately 60 years ago, a group of twenty-four families relocated from Vishakapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh state, and came for the construction of the Nagarjuna Sagar dam project. Over time, they established a close community in Neredugomma mandal Nalgonda district, built colonies here, and stayed. And all of them came from Visakhapatnam in AP, so their colony was named ‘Vizag Colony‘. Few are from Maharashtra and Odisha. They cook curry and roti for the tourists who come here for money. Freshly cooked fish curry is famous here.

The villagers of Nagarjuna Sagar take up fishing in the backwaters and provide boating for tourists. With the recent increase in tourists, there are many people who are employed through food arrangements and grocery shops. Here, fish soup and fish fry dishes are served to tourists

Backwaters are beautiful places that are good for shooting. During the dry season, when the water recedes, the islands in Nagarjuna Sagar emerge. They share the beauty of nature. If the water is full in the Sagar, these islands will sink… If accommodation houses are built, tourism will develop here, and it will be more beneficial for Telangana Tourism.

There are tourist places around Vizag Colony: Muni Shiva Temple, Rakshasa Caves, Gajube Caves of the Primitive Man, Amba Bhavani Temple, Pushkar Ghats in Kasaraju Palli, and high hills that look like Tirumala are famous here.Tigers, leopards, and bears from the Amrabad sanctuary. The nature-ready formation with backwaters gives a good kick to the tourists. This place is more suitable for bachelor’s parties, birthday parties, couples, family vacations,etc.

• From Hyderabad, you can take the NH65 highway towards Nalgonda and continue on the route until you reach Neredugomma Mandal in the Nalgonda district.
